{self} project
So I have shared before I am currently in school studying psychology (it explain my blog title...go to the about me and read it now if you are confused! thanks!) and I have warned that all those studies may come out in posts every so often. Today is one of those days. This quote that I found from Christin on pinterest made me think about how people miss use the term the self esteem. Here is the real story people:
[Your] Self: Is the specific personality characteristic. The objective stuff.
[Your] Self Concept: The perception of yourself. The thoughts and opinions about self.
[Your] Self Esteem: The evaluation, how you feel about your self concept. Where the influences really take a tole.
Keep reading more about the self.
So next time you are feeling crappy or you feel like X because Y happen, remember that you are not now X. You are only feeling that way because something happen. It becomes a vicious cycle.[Blogger related example: Self=blogger//Self Concept= not so popular blogger//Self Esteem= I must suck at this bc I am not popular (self concept) therefor I suck and should stop] You are in charge of your self, your self concept and your self esteem. You have to believe what and who you are. If you don't believe in yourself why should any one else?
We have many selves... 6 to exact:
1. Who I really am.
2. Who I think I am.
3. Who others think I am.
4. Who I think others think I am.
5. Who I think I will become.
6. Who others want me to become.
The issues come when 1-3 don't match up. A lot of blogger talk about how people think their lives are perfect, because who is going to put up the ugly pictures from outfit shoots and talk about how we only instagram the pretty socially acceptable things we ate? [confessional: I ate taco bell this weekend.late night.and sonic.twice.] Is who others think we are not matching up with who we really are? I was talking to my mom one day about the blog she said " I don't know how you do it, comparing yourself to others every second of the day, thats freaking exhausting Emily". She's so right, it really is...and on days where I feel as thought I am going to be extra susceptible to that I don't read other blogs. I put up my post hope for the best and try and forget about this whole blogging world for the day and remember the friends and family that I am surrounded by that say "oh she's in a blogger outfit today" "is this gonna make the blog?!" and the best of "this is so locus of style exposed material" and bring me back to the fact that numbers are not all that matter.
