Hump Day Thoughts//Hair
It is funny because I feel like I am introducing the world to something that is a part of me some people don't think of me without. My hair. Big ass thick curly hair. After years and years of wearing it natural, I finally got the hang of blowing it out myself having a bff at the blowout place who expected me everyone 7-10 days. Yep you read it right, when I blow out my hair I only wash it once a week-ish (my friends joke that I have a wig). When you have hair like mine (big, thick, dry and curly) over washing it only makes it dry-ER and no one wants that, if anything we are asking for a little oil!On to the curls, while I was in Florida I was debating getting my hair wet (a normal internal debate I have...how dirty is it? Does it look dirty? How many days has it been? Have I sweat a lot in those days?) and since I was at the beach staying out of the water was 50% going to be an option. Well, that was until my dear 17 year old brother dragged me out farther than I would have liked to go (to keep said hair dry) and boom there goes a wave right over my head. For about 5 minutes I was not pleased and then I embraced it.I joked that my hair had been pulled straight for so long (I haven't seen my natural curls in around a year) that it was like "yay I am free" and bounced up even higher. Once I was back home and had gone through a weekend of looking myself in the mirror, and gotten used to it. I decide screw the blowdryer, I am going natural for here on out until all I want to do it rock a high pony and bun....two things medium length curly hair cannot do well. A lot of people has asked me "why would you ever straighten it?! Why don't you always wear it like this" well I have one answer for you! It is so unpredictable and not very versatile. I never know 100% how it is going to dry, sometimes it is with puffy uncurled patches. And the versatility thing, it doesn't look good up or half down or whatever, only down all the way for the full effect.Ah I cannot forget the products!!! I found this leave in conditioner by Rusk that is a godsend! I first started using it in High School and I would stock up on it! I am talking anytime my mom or I would see it at Marshalls or TJ Maxx we would buy every bottle. It is AMAZING! I got Mary Logan hooked on it as well and she has thick wavy hair! I use about a quarter size dollop and work it all through my hair using the "scrunching" technique.
